Radio Basingstoke no more!

We where shocked to receive an email this weekend to tell us that the Station Director that we have so often talked about on our show from Radio Basingstoke is retiring from Internet radio! This leaves radio Basingstoke without a director, without an owner and not on air any more.

So we are without a home at the moment!!

John the station director said:

" It has been an amazing experience and it has been a pleasure to work with you all in creating a unique listening experience. Your help, and patience sometimes when we suffered from the problems arising from running on a shoestring budget, has always been very much appreciated."

The Dark warrior and I have been chatting about this and as far as we can see it we have three options:

  1. Find another station
  2. Put the show online and just broadcast it ourselves through iTunes, mixcloud and our own website - go independent
  3. look at taking over Radio Basingstoke
What do you think?  We would love to know your opinions!

We are off Air.  We aren't broadcasting at the moment.  You might be wondering what happened??

Well two weeks ago our show wasn't aired because of "server problems" that the station director told us about.

After that we received an email from the station director saying he had changed the times of our show.  So after working hard to promote it as Sunday at noon for the last year we are now moving!

I replied asking if he could explain the new times to us as they didn't seem that good:

Monday 10:00 - 11:00
Thursday 09:00 - 10:00
Thursday 20:00 - 21:00
Saturday 18:00 - 19:00

What do you think of the new listening times?

So at the moment until we can have a meeting with the station director to clear things up and work out where we are going we are off air!

We have two best of radio shows to release to you shortly.  All the highlights from our first year on air!  Very excited to get them out to you when this is resolved.

We might also send them to some bigger stations and see what response we get!

Let us know your thoughts below!

Which Superhero would you most like to be?

This weekend past saw the release of the summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight Rises" so we thought we would do a Batman and super hero special on this week's show.

We will be asking you which superhero you would like to be?  Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Wolverine?

We will also be making up our own Superheroes for the members of the show and need your help coming up with their special powers!

So tune in on Sunday where we will be doing the first half of the show before watching Batman The Dark Knight Rises and reviewing the film during the second half.  We will be very careful to give nothing away!

On the right you will see a picture of Manny Latina (OLE!)
But what super hero would he be and what powers would he have?

Sicilian Man??

Costume: Armani Suit
Special powers: His huge energy comes from constant shots of espresso, he can defeat his enemies with huge and frantic body language and has flawless Italian charm.

How about Zoe?

She is "The Dark Warrior" obviously.

Costume: Black bike leathers and a helmet with death flames on it.

Special powers:  Ability to cut anyone down to size with scathing remarks and can manipulate sounds and destroy her enemies.  Speaks fluent Northern.

And finally, Katie Wick Wock Tick Tock - the stats specialist.

"Stats Woman"

Costume: Skin tight all-in-one cat suit covered with equations

Super Powers: She can confuse even the most intelligent people with numbers and stats, she confuses further with random outbursts and plays the ukulele badly!

And then finally our show host Alan

Alan "Doughnut" Donegan??

Costume: a big doughnut which can stick to anything allowing him to climb up buildings

Special power: can scare off his opponents by his ability to eat huge amounts of food, throws deadly razor pancakes as his weapon and can put anyone to sleep with his inane witterings?

Well as he is writing this post he needs your help!  What would Alan's super Hero alter ego be??

What costume would he wear?  Would it hide his middle age bulges?

What super Powers would he have?  Please comment below and let us know!

This week's radio show guest got 1.2 million YouTube hits on one video.  She got to the semi finals for Britain's Got Talent.

Simon Cowell said she was posh.  She is from Basingstoke!
Those last two might be an oxymoron but we are very pleased to have Lauren Thalia on this week's show.
Lauren is coming with her guitar to sing for us,  so make sure you tune in to hear Lauren singing live on Radio Basingstoke this weekend.

Lauren got to the Semi Finals of "Britain's Got Talent" which you can see here:
So tune in on Sunday at noon to hear Lauren.  You can get all the details of when her show will be aired here

Are you excited about the Olympics?

Yesterday the Olympic Torch came to Basingstoke.  The flame was burning and it was coming to town.

Basingstoke flooded to festival place and the surrounds to see the flame.  The crowds were huge (for Basingstoke).  You could feel the tension mounting.

Especially as the crowd control tried in vain to control the crowd.  But of course we are from Basingstoke and we don't listen!  There were several crowd surges to better vantage points; where the frustrated and powerless crowd control stewards told us we shouldn't stand.

The people from Basingstoke cared nothing for on coming traffic, nothing about the dangers of standing in a busy road, all they cared about was seeing the Olympic torch in this once in a life time opportunity.

As I watched, I thought to myself it is obvious that these people are excited about the Olympics, but the question that came to mind is "are you excited about the Olympics?"

So we thought we would ask.  Are you excited about the Olympics?  Do you have tickets?  Are you moist with anticipation?  Click on the poll on the right and let us know how excited you are about the Olympics.

Famous people from Basingstoke

Who do you know that is famous from Basingstoke??

We have been looking for people to interview from Basingstoke (that is where our show is based) and we thought who is famous from Basingstoke.

It turns out that two of the Gladiators from the 90's hit game show that kept me busy on Saturday nights are from Basingstoke!  Do you know who?

Trojan (third from the left) and Falcon (fourth from the left) where both born in Basingstoke.  Can you believe it?  Two Gladiators from Basingstoke.  That gives us an above average number of genuine Gladiators per capita in Basingstoke.

Why are we not a city?

Do you know any one else who is famous from Basingstoke?  Who should we invite onto the show and interview?

Who do you know that is from Basingstoke and Famous??

Picture
And of course Elizabeth Hurley is from Basingstoke as well.  Can you believe it?

So Basingstoke has produced its fair share of famous people but which should we invite on the show?  Who do you want us to interview?

If you know one of these ultra glamorous people then tell them we can revive their careers in Basingstoke or just tell us who you would like to see on the show.

Leave a comment below as to who you would like us to interview on the show coming up!

Have a great weekend and tune in to the next show.
